Leachville Gym

The old Leachville High School gym a now a wonderful, multi-purpose building for the entire community after the community stepped up to save the historic structure.

After Leachville and Monette Schools consolidated in the 1980′s, the Buffalo Island Central School District took over the gym.  But with the new families the schools have erected, they no longer had a need for the old gym.

They donated it over to the City of Leachville for new life.  You can catch an array of events there like wrestling, live shows, markets, food truck festivals, and much more! Follow them on Facebook for more info: CLICK HERE

Melody Theater

The historic Melody Theater in Leachville celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023! The Melody Theater was built in 1948 by LeRoy Carter, Gene Higgenbotham, and John Hanni at a cost of $100,000 (about $1.25 million in today’s dollars).

The film “Unconquered” starring Gary Cooper and Paulette Goddard opened the theater on Saturday, Nov. 13, 1948, and sold out four showings with standing room only. The Melody had 538 seats and a cry room and was considered the most modern and nicest theater between Memphis and St. Louis. It was so successful that it paid for itself in the first 18 months and prospered for more than 35 years.

By the mid-1980s the population of Leachville had declined and it had become more popular to see a movie in the bigger theaters in Jonesboro. By 1990 The Melody had fallen into disrepair and was closed. It remained closed for about ten years.

In the early 2000’s the building was purchased by The City of Leachville. Under the leadership of the late Marie Kennett and the late Moba Lee Miller, The Melody was restored and thrived again as a venue for live music concerts, plays, gospel singings, and other community events.

During a storm in March, 2017, the building was struck by lightning and suffered extensive smoke damage, but it was restored and reopened again in April, 2018.

Today, the theater shows movies twice a month and host an array of live shows.
